Cooper is now 3 and it is time to do an update on him as well. He has grown 3 1/2 inches and is now 38 1/2 inches tall and right below the 75 percentile for height. His weight is 34 lbs and is also right at the 75 percentile. He has always been the shortest of our crew, but is slowly trying to catch up to the rest.
He is a hilarious child. I think the youngest is always thought of as cute and funny just because they are smaller and do cute little things, but he truly has a really funny personality. He makes us laugh constantly with the little things he says and his dramatic way of playing games. He just has a much sillier personality than Peyton and Karsten did at that age.
Everything he does is big and physical. He gives big hugs and tells you how much he loves you. He loves to wrestle around on the floor and also cuddle up on the couch with you. He is always pretending to run and fall down and dive after the soccer ball and be so dramatic about it. He is very athletic with everything he does. His teacher said that they do races at school to let the kids burn off some energy and Cooper is always the first one to cross the finish line, every time. He rides his bike well, he is a daredevil at the pool, he enjoys dribbling and shooting a basketball, playing golf and soccer, and anything else that involves running and a ball. He is just so different than Peyton and Karsten. They have always been more reserved in the way they show affection and were both so cautious as preschoolers.
He does have a bit of a temper, but really most of the time is pretty easy going. As long as he can play with Peyton or Karsten or curl up in my lap to snuggle or read a book, he is fine. He finally has started potty training and that is going okay. We are just to the point where if we take him regularly he doesn't have an accident, but he is not to the point where he tells us he is ready to go. I think it will be a couple more months before he masters this all. It will be so nice to have everyone out of diapers. I will have had a child in diapers for over 7 1/2 years when this is all said and done. And Peyton and Karsten overlapped for about 6 months and Karsten and Cooper overlapped for about 9 months.
His interests really are big physical play. He is not interested in art yet and even Legos are still a little too small and hard to put together for him. He loves his toy fire truck and dump truck and he got some cute little Toy Story 3 figures for his birthday that he loves to put in them and drive around. His inside play is usually cars and trucks and little people and figures and his outside play is bikes, balls, and lots of running.
His best friend is Townes, from church and his preschool class. He loves him so much and they wrestle and play tough guy together at school. They exclude all other kids in the class and sometimes get physical enough to have to be separated. That is something that Karsten's teachers would never say. He told me tonight that he likes to play with boys and not girls. When I told him that boys can play with girls too, he said that they can not because girls are not boys. Again, something Karsten would never say at 3 years old.
We love Cooper so much. He is truly a joy to have and a bright ray of sunshine in our family. I can't imagine what our lives would be like if we had stopped at 2 children. God definitely had a plan when he gave us Cooper. Although he is the second boy in the family, I think he will bring different challenges than Karsten because they are so different and he so much more of a stereotypical boy. I imagine the teenage years will be very scary with such an adventurous and active kid full of teenage testosterone. But, we'll see. Karsten changed so much from 3 years old to 5, so it will be interesting to see what I am writing about him in 2 years.
