Cooper's Parent/Teacher Conference

We also had Cooper's Parent/Teacher conference last week.  He has Ms. Stacy, who has been at the preschool for quite a few years, but we neither Peyton nor Karsten had her.  She had glowing remarks about Cooper.  She started out saying "I really love having Cooper in my class."  But it was the way she said it that made me really feel like she meant it even more than the words she was saying.  She said it slowly and very intentionally with a sweet smile on her face, almost as if she was trying to hold back gushing even more.

She first asked me about his personality at home and wanted to know if he was as funny easy going as he was at school.  She also asked if he was independent at home since he is always able to get and put his toys away, go to the bathroom, get his lunch/snack set up and cleaned up, and play throughout the classroom, all without much assistance or prompting or needing to check in with the teacher.  She also asked me how we discipline at home because he is very well behaved and when he does get involved in something that he shouldn't and realizes that the teacher has noticed, he very quickly stops and removes himself from the situation.

She said he is always very excited about all the activities that she brings to the class and she really looks to him to help spread his enthusiasm to his other classmates that are not always as excited about trying something new or stopping what they are currently doing to change activities.  She said he gets along with his friends well and avoids conflict and is just very sweet to have in the class.  Developmentally, he is right on target and doing great.

I really like Ms. Stacy a lot.  Although our preschool is not an academically based preschool, you can tell that she tries really hard to intentionally incorporate many academic principles into almost all the activities they do, more-so than any other teacher that we have had before.  Especially since Cooper now goes to school 5 mornings a week, it is really nice to know that his teacher loves him dearly and that he is learning both social and academic principles in such a loving and fun environment.
