Peyton had Pioneer Days at her school to wrap up their study of the Oregon Trail and pioneer times. The kids churned butter, made a corn husk doll, rolled out dough, and stitched together a quilt square. Outside activities included stick horse races, horseshoes, and seed spitting contest. Peyton wore the dress my mom made for me when I was little and a real pioneer days bonnet. My mom did a demonstration for all the 3rd graders on how to make butter using an old fashioned churn. The kids took turn and eventually they churned about 4 pounds of butter. I don't know when we'll use it all, but it was fun for the kids to see.
